Feeling Fall With Kona Solids
Happy Tuesday!
The Courthouse Steps Block is a variation of the Log Cabin block, and was introduced to the quilting world during the civil war. I have to admit it is truly one of my favorites.
Using fall colored Kona solids and a newsprint fabric I created a table topper to get a modern look on the very traditional courthouse steps block. Topper measures 19 x 19 inches.

My inspiration came from the book I Love Log Cabins by Karen Burns. I fell in love with so many of the patterns found in the book. I’m sure I will find a way to make smaller versions of each π
As always I love making mug rugs to match my runners.Β After seeing Wendy’s from Pieceful Thoughts acorn mini quilt blocksΒ and Abbie from Sparkle On pineapple quilt blocks I had to make some for hubby and I.
I prefer my mug rugs to be rectangular in shape so I added a strip to each block,Β they finished at 6 x 7 inches.
Sew cute don’t you think?!!

Hi Karla! I just LOVE the table topper. Oooh, those Kona solids are just wonderful and I really like the newsprint. Those little mug rugs are so darn cute. I should make a set of them for Sue’s mom and dad. Hmm, maybe I’ll start thinking about that for Christmas. Thanks for the idea! ~smile~ Roseanne

I’m loving the low volume print whites used with the solids. It gives great interest to the table topper. Your mug rugs are cute, cute, cute. Almost too much to use. I doubt I could encourage my husband to use one, unless I put a dozen of them all over the house. But he probably would put his cup next to it thinking I wouldn’t want them dirtied.

Thanks Cherie! My hubby was the same when I first started making the mug rugs but once he saw me using them all the time he did too — also he finds them great gifts for his coffee drinking friends π

Thank you! I’m starting to buy more solids and tonals that read solid; I struggle with value.
