Finally A Finish
Hello and Happy Tuesday!
It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve posted, we’ve been busy and having fun π
I’m happy to have another project finished – Yay!! I started my scrappy batik hourglass quilt earlier this year.Β On my project planner I had this quilt marked with a need by date of September 1, so I moved it to the top of my priority list.
I was drawn to the Tradewinds batik collection by Connecting Threads for the autumn hues – colors that warm my heart. There are several ways to create an hourglass quilt block. My fabric was cut in strips so I used my companion angle ruler to cut the strips into quarter triangles to assemble the blocks.
My quilt measures 50 x 60 inches. I know that stitch in the ditch quilting isn’t sexy, but it’s quick, relaxing and quite satisfying for me.

I had lots of bonus half square triangles from the strips so I made a couple of pillows to match.

Happy Sewing!
How pretty! I love the pillows, and it’s all a perfect finish, just in time for fall! Well done!

I like everything you did here. I love stitch in the ditch. And cross hatching. They are simple and elegant and look good on every quilt. They don’t ever look cluttered or overdone. Keep it up. =)

Thank you! Cross hatching is another one of my go to types of quilting. Cutting and piecing are my favorite steps in the process – for me its like putting together a puzzle π

Hi Karla! Your finish is fabulous! I just LOVE the fabrics you chose – just perfect for autumn. And your pillows look great and are a fun use for those extra HSTs rather than hanging on to them. Happy Wednesday! ~smile~ Roseanne

I am always drawn to your projects using the warm colors. This one is no exception. I have a ruler almost like the one you used but have not tried it yet. So far I’ve always just sewn the squares and then cut out them. Sooner or later I’ll have to do them the other way and use my ruler.

Using the ruler takes a little more time but I think the accuracy is so much better – for me at least π I’m glad you liked my quilt!

You can never go wrong with batiks (although I try to use a variety of fabrics, batiks remain my all time favorites) and the quilt and pillow look great!
